Funcom announced that Dune: Awakening is now available on Steam. With this, players now have the chance to rise from survival to greatness and challenge the power of an Imperium. It's not just the biggest Dune game ever made, but could also be one of the most ambitious survival games ever.
Those who bought the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition had the chance to play the game early starting June 5. In a statement, the studio revealed that since that time the game had 117,087 people play at peak concurrency on Steam. With the game officially launched, the studio hopes that this would go up even higher. According to the studio, Dune: Awakening currently holds an 89% user rating on Steam.
The studio also revealed that they followed a classic business model with Dune: Awakening. What this means is that once players buy it, they own the game. Players also have the option to buy the optional DLCs. Funcom assured everyone that there won’t be any subscription fees or microtransactions.
Ready to make your mark in Arrakis?
Dune: Awakening takes players to an open world and multiplayer survival game on a massive scale. In reality, it’s more than just survival since the game offers a large-scale, persistent, and highly immersive world that has social hubs bustling with other players, server-wide politics and intrigue, and even a cinematic storyline that’s sure to leave players at the edge of their seat.
In this universe, the Fremen have vanished and Paul Atreides was never born. This is because Lady Jessica obeyed the Bene Gesserit and gave birth to a girl. Meanwhile, Duke Leto Atreides himself has survived the assault on Arrakeen and is now locked in a brutal conflict against the Harkonnen over Arrakis and its precious spice. This rather unique but still familiar take on the iconic sci-fi universe of Dune has players start as a prisoner sent to Arrakis and learn more about why the Fremen disappeared.
While players on PC can now enjoy Dune: Awakening, console players need to wait. Funcom confirmed that the game is releasing for PlayStation and Xbox consoles sometime in 2026.
